Documentary, discussion to examine sexual assaults on colleges

A free screening of the documentary “The Hunting Ground” will be at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

“The Hunting Ground” was created to educate audiences on the widespread issue of campus sexual assault. The title of the documentary was chosen to represent the ideal conditions college campuses offer serial rapists to commit violent acts and escape responsibility.

The film uses a series of interviews from young women, and a few men, who recount their experiences of being attacked and the lack of response provided by their universities.

Nicole Madonna-Rosario, health education specialist for interpersonal violence with the Center for Wellness Promotion, said, “We hope that by showing this film and having the panel discussion, we can highlight the ways that our campus has already begun to create a shift in the culture.”

Following the documentary, there will be a panel discussion; participants will be Christine Reed Davis, dean of students; Dawn Floyd, Title IX coordinator; Michelle Guobadia, director fraternity and sorority life; Terri Rhodes, assistant director of training, Counseling Center; and Bridget Drake, a survivor of sexual assault.

The Center for Wellness Promotion, Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the Title IX Office are cosponsoring this screening.
