Veterans Day is a U.S. federal holiday observed annually to honor individuals who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Veterans Student Services Office, the Student Veterans of America and the Office of Student Involvement are cosponsoring events during the week of Nov. 9-13 to honor veterans.

Assistant Director of Student Activities for Student Involvement Cassidy Sansone said, “We are thankful for our UNC Charlotte veterans’ service and sacrifice, and we thought it was important to recognize and thank our veterans.”

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday in the Student Union Rotunda, members of the campus community can write a message of appreciation or share a memory of a veteran.

A Roll Call Remembrance will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the College of Education/College of Health and Human Services Plaza. Army and Air Force ROTC cadets, as well as student veterans, will take time to remember North Carolina service members who have lost their lives in the Global War on Terror.

At 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, there will be a Veterans Day ceremony at the courtyard near Cato and Fretwell buildings. Speakers for this event, to celebrate the service and sacrifice of veterans, will include Chancellor Philip L. Dubois; Cindi Basenspiler, executive director of Charlotte Bridge Home; and David Vacchi, associate director of veterans services.

On Thursday, Nov. 12, David Vacchi, associate director for veteran student services, will give a presentation about working with veterans on UNC Charlotte’s campus from 1 to 2 p.m. in Cone University Center, Room 210.
