Thirty film screenings, on subjects ranging from love’s follies to aging to immigrant struggles, will be held during the festival, which runs from Monday, March 14, through Saturday, April 9. Films will be introduced by UNC Charlotte faculty members and special guests and will be accompanied by discussions or lectures. All films are subtitled.
This annual festival and the related special events are free and open to the public.
Special guests include award-winning journalist Massoud Hayoun and Japanese filmmaker Kazuhiro Soda, who will present a lecture preceding the showing of “Peace” (2010). Klaus Buchenau, professor of Southeastern and Eastern European history at the University of Regensburg, Germany, will lead discussions after the screenings of “Admiral” and “Battalion.”
The April 2 film and all weekend screenings will take place at UNC Charlotte Center City. All other screenings will be held at UNC Charlotte (main campus), where visitor parking is available for a fee.
UNC Charlotte’s Department of Languages and Culture Studies will host the festival in association with the Chinese, French, German, Iranian, Nihon, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish student organizations. Specific information about all of the films, including time, date and location of each screening, can be found at the International Film Festival website.
