Resiliency subject of Counseling Center talks
The Counseling Center will sponsor talks at 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, April 13 and 27, in the Student Union Movie Theatre.
Each event will feature two speakers with aspects of resiliency as a focus of the talks; these events are free to students, faculty, staff and the public. For students, these workshops are Wellness Passport events.
On April 13, Jessica Groleau and David Spano will speak on “From Striving to Thriving: Growth in the Face of Trauma” and “It’s not Just Me, We’re One in Three: Perspectives on Being a First-generation College Student,” respectively.
Terri Rhodes will address “Living through Our Trauma,” and Lynne Harris will discuss “Positively Driven: Connecting with the Power of Meaning and Gratitude in Your Life” on April 27.
The Counseling Center series aims to improve academic performance and increase overall well-being by assisting students in effectively addressing and managing personal stressors. A “talk back” session with the audience follows the presentations.
“Counseling Center Talks is a workshop series, modeled after Ted Talks, that strives to help students build and enhance their resilience in an engaging format,” said Erica Lennon, staff psychologist and outreach coordinator for the Counseling Center. “Research has shown that increased resilience leads to increased overall well-being, as well as greater academic success.”
