Statement from Art Jackson, vice chancellor for student affairs, regarding tragedy in Orlando
The extended UNC Charlotte community joins with institutions and individuals across the nation and around the world in support of the victims of Sunday’s tragedy, their families and the people of Orlando.
We reaffirm the special role of our public university to prepare well-rounded, lifelong learners who will lead in our communities and advance the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness, civil discourse and the peaceful resolution of conflict.
The Orlando atrocity has no place in our society, and no group should have to live in an environment of fear or harassment. We rededicate ourselves to this principle and will do our utmost to not let hate and bias prevail.
UNC Charlotte will continue to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all members of our faculty, staff, and students.
As we all continue to process what happened this weekend, I urge anyone needing assistance to contact our Counseling Center, the Dean of Students Office, Human Resources, Public Safety, or the Multicultural Resource Center.
Flags on campus will remain at half-staff through Thursday.
