Circus theatre students to perform

Participants in the Department of Theatre summer Circus Theatre class will present a public showing of their work at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 29. This outdoor performance will take place on MAX, the UNC Charlotte Mobile Arts & Community Experience, on the lawn in front of Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts.

The class is taught by Assistant Professor of Theatre CarlosAlexis Cruz, who studied circus arts and Chinese acrobatics at the San Francisco Circus Center. During a five-week period, the 12 students in the class have learned contemporary circus acts, including aerial silks and hoop, trapeze, tumbling and juggling.

MAX was designed especially for circus arts performances, with a sprung floor and a 20-foot vertical truss. Its construction was funded by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
