Suspects apprehended in on-campus armed robbery
At approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, two of the three suspects in a reported armed robbery on campus were apprehended by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). The third suspect was arrested a short time later.
Earlier that morning, at 1:42 a.m., UNC Charlotte dispatch received a blue light notification that two students had been robbed behind the Popp Martin Student Union. No injuries were reported.
According to University Police Chief Jeff Baker, the crime is an anomaly on campus. “The crime rate on campus is very low and robberies are very rare,” he said. “We are grateful to CMPD for their quick response and collaboration that led to the timely arrest of these suspects.”
Anyone with any additional information on this crime is asked to contact Police and Public Safety at 704-687-8300 or CMPD through Crime Stoppers.
