Distinguished professor Winsor Schmidt has died

Winsor Schmidt Jr., 69, the Metrolina Medical Foundation Distinguished Professor of Public Policy on Health, died May 18 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House-Huntersville. Services and interment will be held at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana.

A member of the Department of Public Health Sciences since fall 2015, Schmidt previously was Endowed Chair/Distinguished Professor of Urban Health Policy, University of Louisville School of Medicine. Additionally, he held faculty appointments as professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and professor of family and geriatric medicine and professor of health management and systems sciences in Louisville’s School of Public Health and Information Sciences. He also directed the Health Policy and Administration program at Washington State University.

A graduate of Harvard University, Schmidt held a Juris Doctor from American University and a Master of Laws from the University of Virginia.
