Retirement reception scheduled for Phil Jones

Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor for facilities management, will retire Friday, Aug. 31, after nearly 18 years of service.

A retirement reception in his honor will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17, in the third floor salons of the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

As associate vice chancellor for facilities management, Jones oversees all capital planning and construction, facilities maintenance, utilities, custodial operations, real estate and sustainability efforts at the University. Since his arrival, FM has experienced substantial growth; the number of FM employees has increased from 252 positions in 2000 to more than 460 to date.

Capital construction during his tenure has been the largest in UNC Charlotte’s history including creation of the Charlotte Research Institute campus, a football stadium complex and reshaping the University’s master plan. University capital construction, in the last decade, exceeded $1 billion and included the addition of more than 3 million square feet.

Earlier this year, at the 37th annual State Construction Conference, Jones received the Frank B. Turner Award in recognition of his professional contributions to the built environment.

Individuals who plan to attend the reception should RSVP by Friday, Aug. 3, or email Beverly Imes at brimes@uncc.edu.
