As the fall 2019 semester ramps up, several notable construction projects and renovations add to campus excitement.

TRYON STREET Entrance

Improvements to the campus entrance on North Tryon Street are complete. The $1.9 million enhancement, designed to match the style of the main entrance along University City Boulevard (Hwy. 49), provides safe and welcoming access to campus for drivers and pedestrians from the J.W. Clay Boulevard light rail station. The project includes seat walls, landscaping and an illuminated median sign. A plaque and dedication are scheduled for November.

Moore Hall

The walls of Moore Hall were slowly demolished during the spring and summer. Students returning for the fall semester might have noticed what remains—concrete and mixed metal—piled next to SoVi Dining Hall. Eventually, both Moore Hall and Sanford Hall will be demolished to make way for a new, combined residence hall, providing 750-800 beds.

In the meantime, work progresses on the $66 million,160,000 square-foot facility, which will feature indoor and outdoor pools, multi-purpose courts, elevated running and walking track, and flexible fitness spaces as well as exterior hardscape, irrigation and sod.

Science Building

Construction continues on the $101 million Science Building, with completion projected for spring 2021. The building will provide leading-edge laboratories for science education and feature STEM interdisciplinary instructional and research spaces, including laboratories and offices and work spaces for chemistry, biology and physics.
