Dance students to perform with professional troupe

Students in Assistant Professor of Dance Tamara Williams’s Afro-Brazilian dance class will perform with the Los Angeles-based troupe CONTRA-TIEMPO Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 7-9, at the Booth Playhouse in the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in uptown Charlotte.
Founded in 2005, CONTRA-TIEMPO Urban Latin Dance Theater is comprised of professional dancers and performers from varied styles, many of whom are immigrants or first-generation Americans. Ten UNC Charlotte students will participate in the program “joyUS justUS,” which fuses salsa, Afro-Cuban, hip-hop and contemporary dance with theatre and original music.
The students also will participate in a community choreographic session with the CONTRA-TIEMPO company members on Nov. 5. Visit the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center website for ticket information.
