How students are utilizing summer online classes to stay on course
It’s no secret that COVID-19 has dramatically impacted the University, forcing instruction online and throwing a wrench in the academic journeys of many students. However, summer courses provide students an opportunity to catch up, get ahead or graduate on time.
And, for the first time, all summer classes are online!
The flexibility of summer online courses allows students a convenient option to continue their education without having to travel to campus during these uncertain times.
Here’s how some current students are using summer courses to their advantage.
STAYING ON COURSE
“I am a part-time student because I work full time. I use summer semester to ensure I graduate on time.” – Danielle, Graduate Student
“Summer school allows me to ensure I graduate in four years, as I have a heavy pre-med course load. In addition, it ensures I can finish all prerequisites and take the MCAT my junior year!” – Priya, Sophomore
GRADUATING EARLY
“Summer courses allow me to catch up on classes like physics and chemistry so I can focus on my major requirements during the fall and spring semesters. I even enjoy the condensed session because it doesn’t allow you to fall behind. It’s great motivation and I recommend summer classes to anyone who wants to get ahead!” – Emma, Senior
“Summer school will allow me to graduate a year early!” – Kimberly, Graduate Student
“If you’re hoping to get ahead, summer courses can help you get there. I am able to take 12 credits and make up a full semester just in the summer term.” – Bailey Elizabeth, Sophomore
LIGHTER COURSE LOAD
“I’m taking a summer course to avoid taking 18-credit-hour semesters. With my student involvement and employment, I want to be just as dedicated to my studies and not be stressed from all coursework.” – Kaitlyn, Freshman
“This summer I’m taking four classes. They’re online due to the COVID crisis and I saw it as an opportunity to manage my course load on my own time rather fitting them into a crazy schedule during the semester. With four classes out of the way, I’ll have a lighter course load for my senior year in the fall.” – Madison, Junior
ONLINE BENEFITS
“I am using summer school to complete two of my classes this summer! I was never able to take summer classes due to scheduling until this summer when it was offered online! Super glad!” – Christine, Graduate student
“I decided to take advantage of the online classes this year for a change of pace.” – Cynthia, Graduate Student
CONTINUING EDUCATION
“I am using summer school to work toward my Master of Education in AIG. I work full time as a teacher, so summer school allows me to take classes while I’m not working during the school year, allowing me more time to focus on my studies.” – Allison, Graduate Student
KNOCK OUT PREREQUISITES
“I transferred from ECU, so I feel behind on my prerequisite courses and want to make sure I stay on track!” – Karly, Freshman
“I am using summer school to stay on course because my community college did not offer my major’s prerequisite course and by taking that class over the summer, I will be able to go into fall semester officially declared and on track.” – Kinaya, Junior
“I am completing prerequisite classes to begin the RN to BSN completion program.” – Tara, Sophomore
IMPROVE GPA
“I am using summer school to make up two classes from a previous semester to better my GPA.” – Gracyn, Sophomore
JUST FOR FUN
“I am taking nine credits over summer to make full use of my time as well as to keep me busy during this ordeal with coronavirus.” – Farhan, Junior
“Taking classes for fun. I’ve already graduated.” – Jason, Graduate Student
