The Council on University Community Working Group (CCWG) invites UNC Charlotte students, faculty, staff and alumni to participate in an online survey designed to capture responses to a question presented by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois in a statement condemning the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Chance W. Lewis, Ph.D., the Provost’s Diversity Faculty Fellow and CCWG chair, encouraged the campus community to offer suggestions for ways UNC Charlotte can drive lasting change toward creating and sustaining a campus culture that exemplifies equity and inclusion. The survey will close on Wednesday, July 1, 2020; please share your perspective today.

As the Provost’s Diversity Faculty Fellow, I have the honor of chairing the Council on University Community Working Group (CCWG) which is designed to accelerate the work of the Campus Plan for Diversity, Access, and Inclusion, with emphasis on those parts that pertain directly to the Division of Academic Affairs.

After the most recent message from Chancellor Dubois, we gathered as a working group to ask the question he posed of us:

What can we do as a University that is committed to creating an equitable and safe environment for our students, faculty, and staff in one of the most diverse and vibrant urban cities in America?

Select members of our Working Group recently met with the Council on University Community, chaired by Provost Joan Lorden and the senior administrative body responsible for leading diversity efforts at UNC Charlotte. We all agreed that to create systemic change in our community, it requires a thoughtful and comprehensive plan. We also recognize that this question cannot be answered by one group in the University.

That’s why we are opening up this survey to ask you — students, faculty, staff and alumni — what steps the University can take to drive meaningful change for UNC Charlotte and in our broader community.

All responses to the survey are anonymous and the feedback will be shared with the working group to ultimately shape the recommendations to the Council on University Community.

Thank you in advance for completing the survey and sharing your perspective. You are helping us create positive change for years to come.
