Go the (social) distance to help students
The UNC Charlotte Alumni Association is giving 49ers the opportunity to stay active and healthy, while supporting students in need, by participating in the Niners Go the (Social) Distance Virtual 4.9K Race.
This virtual 3.04-mile event can be completed in a variety of ways and days, including walking, running, biking, swimming or even skipping. The possibilities are endless. Participants can complete their race any time prior to Friday, July 10. Niners who share a photo of their completed mileage, a photo wearing 49er gear while going the distance or a photo with their race bib will be entered to win one of three #GoldStandard prize bags.
The deadline to register for the Niners Go the (Social) Distance 4.9K is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 28. Registration includes a virtual race bib and a UNC Charlotte t-shirt, which features the new Charlotte 49ers logo. Participants will be among the first to wear this new logo. The Alumni Association is allocating $10 of each virtual race registration to the UNC Charlotte Student Emergency Fund.
“The Niners Go the (Social) Distance race is a great way for alumni and friends to show their 49er pride while also supporting UNC Charlotte students, affected financially by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Amy Kennedy ’10, assistant director of Alumni Affairs.
The Student Emergency Fund, created to help current students by providing financial support for unexpected, unforeseen and unavoidable emergency expenses, including pandemics, has provided much-needed relief for many students. While the fund does not cover tuition and fees on a student’s University account, it can help with expenses related to housing, transportation, food, medical needs and gaining access to necessary resources needed for remote learning. To date, UNC Charlotte has awarded more than $430,500 to 1,231 students.
