Alumni Association launches new networking platform
The UNC Charlotte Alumni Association, in partnership with the University Career Center, recently launched My 49er Network, a powerful interactive platform for alumni, helping them connect socially and professionally with other 49er graduates.
My 49er Network features alumni news, an alumni directory, a job board, alumni groups, a catalog of alumni-owned businesses and a robust mentorship program, along with invitations to upcoming events and activities.
Reyona Hammond ’16, joined My 49er Network as a way to continue developing her professional network and to potentially find a mentor.
“I thought that this would be a great opportunity to connect with more 49ers while fostering new business and professional relationships,” said Hammond, who has already connected with two UNC Charlotte alumni. “I held a virtual informational interview with each person, and I enjoyed hearing about their careers as well as their future professional aspirations.”
Alumni can create special affinity groups on the platform. Job Fickett ’11, a business litigator who practices in Florida, created a Lawyers of Niner Nation group on My 49er Network as a resource for current UNC Charlotte students and alumni.
“I hope this group will create a referral starting point for current practitioners,” said Fickett. “I’m often asked by current or past clients for referrals in other states. If I can refer that business to another Niner who will do great work, all the better.”
To date, more than 930 UNC Charlotte alumni have signed up for My 49er Network, 500-plus job opportunities have been posted, and 34 alumni affinity groups have been formed.
Alumni can sign up to join My 49er Network in less than two minutes with their LinkedIn or Facebook profile and can download the app from the App Store or the Google Play Store.
