Important Commencement Information for 2020 Graduates
The commencement information below was sent to 2020 May, August and December graduates, via email, from Chancellor Gaber on Wednesday, September 30.
- As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our daily lives, UNC Charlotte’s priority remains preserving and protecting the health and safety of Niner Nation. Based on public health guidance, UNC Charlotte delayed the start of face-to-face instruction and will move back to virtual instruction after Thanksgiving.
- UNC Charlotte remains uncertain about the timing of the state’s reopening guidelines and continued limitations around large gatherings. We do not believe we will be able to hold a traditional in-person commencement ceremony in December 2020 or January 2021.
- UNC Charlotte is moving forward with plans for a virtual celebration to honor all of our 2020 graduates (May, August, and December) on Friday, January 8, 2021. The University will work with student and faculty leaders to create a commemoration that is meaningful for our graduates and their families.
- Our graduates have worked hard for their degrees. While an in-person ceremony is a wonderful tradition that symbolizes the culmination of their college career, a virtual ceremony does nothing to lessen their accomplishments or this important milestone in their lives.
- UNC Charlotte will do everything we can to make their virtual graduation in January a memorable and celebratory event.
- The UNC Charlotte commencement website and FAQs will be updated with the latest information.
