Celebrate National Walking Day
The first Wednesday in April is National Walking Day, and the American Heart Association sponsors this day to remind people about the health benefits of taking a walk.
The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW) encourages faculty and staff members to celebrate National Walking Day by taking a stroll, April 7. Due to the pandemic, the ACCEHW is not sponsoring group walks this year but encourages employees to walk on their own.
Take a selfie during your walk (or of the scenery during your walk) and email it to my-health@uncc.edu. Include the amount of time walked, too, so the ACCEHW can track participation.
Research shows that each hour of regular exercise can add roughly two hours to a person’s life expectancy. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week for adults.
