Charlotte City Walks return for 2022
For the first time in three years, Charlotte City Walks return with a full lineup of free, in-person, community-led tours to introduce Charlotteans to new sides of their city. City Walks, organized by the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute, were canceled in 2020 and were virtual-only in 2021 because of COVID.
Register for this year’s in-person City Walks. The walks are open to all, but space is limited. Some virtual walks are still available, which means participants will have more flexibility to experience City Walks on their schedule.
Additional self-guided walking tours are available through historian Tom Hanchett’s History South website.
“We’re so excited to bring Charlotte City Walks back in person this year,” said Angelique Gaines of the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute. “Now more than ever, we need ways for people to connect across neighborhoods and across differences. City Walks offer people an easy way to get to know our city and each other.”
Charlotte City Walks is a part of the annual tradition known in many cities as Jane’s Walks. The free tours, led by local citizens, were inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs.
