FM employee Morris Houston has died

Morris “Morri” Houston, 64, died Thursday, May 26, in an automobile accident.

Houston, who joined the University in March 2022, was a technician with the Building Environmental Services and Recycling unit’s Team 1 in the Office of Facilities Management. Prior to the University, Houston worked as a day porter for Kimco for four years and was a courier/driver with Priority Services for 35 years.

Jerry Womack, a BES&R supervisor, noted that Houston was assigned to the Duke Centennial Building where he performed a number of daily tasks to help maintain the facility.

“Morri was a dedicated team member as he not only came to work every day during his time with us, but he would always be at work at least 20 to 30 minutes early, waiting with anticipation for his instructions for the day. He often could be found sitting in the lobby conversing with one of his early bird co-workers. Morri was a lover of basketball and a diehard fan of the UNC Tar Heels, his alma mater. Though he was with us for a very short time, he will be missed,” said Womack.
