Stinnett provides update on legislative pay increases
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to share that we have received guidance from the UNC System on implementation about the recently approved legislative pay increase, and we are moving to process the increases quickly. Here is the latest information and what you can expect:
- The pay increase of 3.5% will be in the Aug. 15, 2022, payroll.
- This raise will be across the board for all eligible employees. To be eligible, employees must be employed by the University on June 30, 2022.
- The pay increase will be calculated based on your salary as of June 30, 2022.
- The pay increase will be retroactive to July 1, 2022, and the Aug. 15, 2022, payroll will include the back pay for the month of July.
- For employees who have received salary updates since July 1, 2022 (e.g., promotion, reallocation, etc.), the legislative increase will be based on their June 30, 2022, salary.
The recently received guidance from the System also included provisions allowing campuses to provide discretionary labor market adjustments for some employees and optional one-time merit-based bonuses for EHRA employees – the first funded with limited state funding and the latter from available campus resources. While HR’s first priority is ensuring the implementation of the legislative increase for all eligible employees by Aug. 15, we are also working closely with senior administration to explore how these additional opportunities may be implemented at Charlotte. We will share more information about that with you in the coming weeks.

Note: This story has been updated to reflect an update received by the System on July 21. Faculty and staff employed by the University on June 30, 2022, will be eligible for the retroactive pay increase regardless of their employment status on Aug. 15, 2022.
