Tehia Glass joins the Office of Diversity and Inclusion

Tehia Glass has joined UNC Charlotte’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion as inclusive excellence executive fellow for faculty development.

Glass, who serves as director of diversity and inclusion for the University’s Cato College of Education and associate professor of elementary education and educational psychology in the Department of Reading and Elementary Education, will lead professional development efforts related to diversity and inclusion for faculty university-wide. She also is co-founder and director of the Anti-racism Graduate Certificate Program.

An alumna of the Student Experience Research Network, whose mission is to advance the research, relationships and capacity to build an education system where every student experiences respect as a valued person and thinker, Glass uses research and expertise to inform education policy. Her research and related publications encompass preparing preservice and in-service teachers’ culturally responsive teaching self-efficacy, anti-racism curriculum development and exploring how caregivers and teachers discuss race with children.

“Dr. Glass’ track record for exceptional work and vast experience in advancing faculty excellence in and outside the classroom speaks for itself,” said Brandon Wolfe, chief diversity officer. “There is no doubt she will provide tremendous support and insight as UNC Charlotte fulfills its potential as a model for inclusive excellence.”

Glass, a TED speaker, celebrates the recent publication of “Teaching for Justice and Belonging: A Journey for Educators and Parents,” co-authored with Lucretia Carter Berry, founder and president of Brownicity: Many Hues, One Humanity, an organization for which Glass serves as an educational advisor and certified trainer. Glass holds a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a master’s degree in educational technology from University of Northern Iowa and bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Bethune-Cookman University.

“I look forward to guiding UNC Charlotte’s faculty as, together, we expand our individual and collective skills, knowledge, and experiences to be the best leaders, researchers, colleagues and course instructors we can be,” Glass said. “The work I’ve done across the University to support faculty with content, pedagogy, policy and practice gives me joy and hope that UNC Charlotte can be even better than it is today. This role provides the opportunity to reach faculty across the entire University, who in turn will make an impact on the students they teach.”
