Five Cool Things (June 2023)
CHEERS TO THE Bevery
Charlotte’s first seltzer brewery has a new name: The Bevery. It opened in 2020 as Summit Seltzer, and now alumna Kristin Cagney ’19 is expanding the offerings, serving beer, wine, cocktails and nonalcoholic drinks — a new menu is on the way.
BOLD RUSH
The Charlotte 49ers made history this spring: Softball’s Bailey Vannoy was invited to the USA National Team tryouts, and baseball’s Cam Fisher earned several All-America honors. Plus, women’s tennis earned its first NCAA tournament bid, men’s golf advanced to its third straight NCAA Tournament, and two track athletes were named All-America. Go Niners!
RACE TO THE FINISH
49ers Racing: UNC Charlotte’s Formula SAE Team placed in the top 10 at the International Collegiate competition at Michigan International Speedway. Vying against 119 other teams from across the globe, 49ers Racing earned impressive rankings in multiple events, including second in fuel economy, third in endurance and ninth overall.
POWER UP
UNC Charlotte Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber and several University alumni and board members are on the 2023 Business North Carolina Power List. Check out these Niners making incredible strides in media and communications, economic development, finance and more.
