Reaffirmation of Community Engagement Classification
UNC Charlotte is seeking reaffirmation of its community engagement classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. urbanCORE, the hub of the University’s engaged scholarship ecosystem, will lead the reaffirmation process.

- The nomination deadline for the 2025 O. Max Gardner Award has been extended until 5 p.m, Monday, Feb. 26. Learn more about this faculty honor given by the UNC Board of Governors, along with other important updates, in this week’s Academic Affairs Weekly News Digest.
- Reminder: The virtual public presentation for the second finalist for the associate vice chancellor for facilities management position will be held from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., today, Monday, Feb. 19.
- Reminder: 49er Mart users are invited to attend a virtual forum from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22. Registration is encouraged on the Learning and Development Portal and more information can be found on the 49er Mart message board.
- TIAA will hold an education session at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, in Cone University Center, Room 210, about the changes and enhancements to the UNC System retirement plans.
- Youth Programs at UNC Charlotte is hosting a Weekend Workshop, open to the public, for students in first through twelfth grades with a passion for STEM from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 23.

Associate Professor of Theatre CarlosAlexis Cruz has received the 2024 Engaged Faculty Award from North Carolina Campus Engagement. The annual award recognizes one faculty member in North Carolina for exemplary engaged teaching and scholarship.

Niner Finances is offering Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for the 2023 tax year! Members of the UNC Charlotte community who make $64,000 or less are invited to have their taxes prepared through the VITA program. More information can be found on the Niner Finances website.

- Join alumni council members from the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences and the University Career Center for “Alumni Chat: Navigating the Workplace as a Recent Grad,” at 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Career Center. Alumni panelists will provide guidance for transitioning into the workplace after graduation.
- With the largest career fair of the semester around the corner, consider attending a crash course with the career center to get familiar with fair norms, what to expect and how to leverage networking. Sessions will be held Monday, Feb. 26, and Tuesday, Feb. 27.
- Read and discuss passages from Black literature, speeches and correspondence during Atkins Library’s Black Read from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, in Atkins Library, Halton Room.
- Join Atkins Library for a fireside-style discussion with NC Representative Kelly M. Alexander, Jr. and Willie Griffin, assistant professor of history, about the birth of grassroots activism in Charlotte starting in the 1930s and into the 1970s at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28 in Atkins Library, Halton Room.
