UNC Charlotte recycles nearly 300 laptops a year, and the University’s OneIT team looked for an organization to partner to get these computers to local families in need. As a result, these laptops are being refurbished and re-imaged by high school students and are redistributed to families in Mecklenburg County, thanks to E2D, a Charlotte-based nonprofit organization.

The influence of UNC Charlotte’s growing research enterprise is solidified in a new report that evaluated the universities in the United States most proficient at creating new knowledge.

Bell ringers for the 2022 Spring Commencement were Samantha Shefte, Kiran Budhrani and Ryen Boleware; the trio were outstanding student leaders who demonstrated exemplary 49er spirit.

The University has been closely monitoring the weather forecast for Friday and Saturday, May 13-14. Because we want to be able to celebrate our graduates’ accomplishments, we will move forward with the outdoor Commencement ceremonies as scheduled. However, in consideration of the forecast for the possibility of widespread rain both days, we will shorten the length of the ceremonies with a focus on what is most important — ensuring our graduates have the ability to walk across the stage. We continue to receive questions about moving the ceremonies to Halton Arena.

Noah Hansil, as a member of the UNC Charlotte Class of 2022, is among the first undergraduates to earn a Bachelor of Science in Data Science from the University’s School of Data Science. A native of Gastonia, North Carolina, Hansil reflects on his time at Charlotte and his future career as a data scientist.

Karen Popp ’80 and Joe Price ’83 will be awarded honorary Doctor of Public Service degrees in recognition of their service to UNC Charlotte and the citizens of the city, region and state during Charlotte’s Spring Commencement, May 13-14.

UNC Charlotte’s Levine Scholars Program has selected 22 young leaders from across the United States who will be the members of the 13th class of the University’s prestigious and academically competitive scholarship program.

The 2022 Charlotte Venture Challenge provided the proverbial cherry on top of a year-long process during which student entrepreneurs honed their business or project ideas, streamlined their plans and perfected their presentations in preparation for pitching their ideas.

During the pandemic, a new student-run organization began to take shape to connect and support students who identify as first-generation college students. First-Gen Niners brings together campus partners with students who do not have a family history of college attendance to form a support system for the unique challenges and obstacles that many first-generation students face.
