Charlotte Venture Challenge Student Showcase rewards entrepreneurs virtually

As the University transitioned to online classes due to the coronavirus pandemic, 10 UNC Charlotte student entrepreneurs participated in Ventureprise’s inaugural virtual 49er Foundry and Student Entrepreneur Showcase.

Alumnus, staff member produces ‘quarantine concerts’

Working from home this spring, in his position as senior research administrator of invoicing in Grants and Contracts Administration at UNC Charlotte, Zack Tarlton ’13 started playing piano during his lunch hour. While his academic training is in architecture, Tarlton has a long history in musical theatre.“I basically grew up at Matthews Playhouse,” he said. As a student at UNC Charlotte, he managed to sneak away from his desk in Storrs to perform in the Department of Theatre production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”

Janni Sorensen, who established the Charlotte Action Research Project at UNC Charlotte, and UNC Charlotte doctoral alumna Melissa Anne Currie ’15 were recognized for outstanding scholarship and service in the field of urban affairs as recipients of the 2020 Best Article in the Journal of Urban Affairs Award.

UNC Charlotte celebrates the Class of 2020 virtually

UNC Charlotte celebrated the Class of 2020 in style, albeit not in the traditional way. More than 200 graduates and members of families, faculty and staff who responded to an invitation to submit videos expressing favorite memories, pride in accomplishment and well wishes for the future.

She is a Levine Scholar, Global Engagement Scholar and a UNC Charlotte American Mock World Health Organization co-founder.
