The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has reaffirmed UNC Charlotte’s community engagement classification, which the University earned originally in 2008.

The relocation of the Charlotte regional office of the Small Business and Technology Development Center to the UNC Charlotte PORTAL Building concentrates University-affiliated entrepreneurial support services in a state-of-the-art facility. Formerly located in the Ben Craig Center at University Research Park, the SBTDC officially opened in PORTAL Jan. 2.

The planned “Live Wire” for Jan. 8 has been canceled; there will be a rebroadcast of a program featuring Ted Amato, professor of economics, and student Brittany Nunn discussing the imapact of the Business Honors Program and Justin Webb and student Luzina Holden discussing business innovation and entrepreneurship at UNC Charlotte. 

Employees can watch “The Live Wire” at their desks or on their mobile devices starting at 2 p.m..

The University Career Center will hold its annual Mock Interview Day on Friday, Jan. 30, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room.  A popular event, Mock Interview Day brings experienced professionals from the Charlotte business community onto campus to work with students and alumni to improve their interviewing skills.

More than 25 employers, including Duke Energy, Wells Fargo, Kellogg’s, the Charlotte Nature Museum and Messer Construction, will participate in this year’s event.

“Por Nuestros Ojos: Understanding Social Determinants of Health through the Eyes of Youth,” co-authored by a number of UNC Charlotte researchers, was named among the four most influential research pieces related to health care disparities for 2014, according to the Culture of Health Reader Poll by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, considered the largest philanthropic efforts devoted to public health.

Commencement ceremonies celebrate the completion of one’s educational journey – no matter how long it may take. This is especially true for one UNC Charlotte graduate at fall commencement Saturday, Dec. 13.

Barbara Coberly, 81, will be among the roughly 3,320 students who will gather with family, friends and others in Halton Arena to receive their undergraduate, master’s or doctoral degrees.

The North Carolina Humanities Council (NCHC) will move its administrative offices to Charlotte in early 2015, to take advantage of what its leaders believe are new and exciting opportunities for organizational development and collaborations in the state’s largest city.

At UNC Charlotte, buildings are named for people who have dedicated their lives to the betterment of the state, and former Gov. Jim Martin qualifies, said UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois at a dedication ceremony for Martin Hall Thursday, Nov. 20.

Nearly 70 nontraditional students were recognized for their academic achievements during the annual scholarship luncheon held by the Office of Adult Students and Evening Services (OASES).

Twenty-seven of the honorees were awarded Osher Reentry Scholarships established through an endowment by the Bernard Osher Foundation, and 11 students were recognized with the Carol Ann Douglas Reentry Scholarship. Also, for the first time, the Foundation for the Carolinas provided support for the ANSWER and Gratitude Endowment scholarships.
