University implements new 49er Mart projects
Financial Services is always looking for ways to improve and simplify processes. During the last two years, a collaborative team, which included representatives from Financial Services, Information Technology Services and Imaging and Workflow among others, has worked to implement several 49er Mart initiatives designed to enhance the user experience and decrease processing time by eliminating paper procedures and adding electronic workflows.
New trainings to teach individual preparedness, student support
The Office of Emergency Management, the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and the Dean of Students Office are sponsoring new trainings to help faculty and staff learn how to proactively survive an intruder situation and to ease the transition for students on campus following the April 30 incident.
Temporary sidewalk closure scheduled
The sidewalk between Parking Lot 16A and the Price Center for Counseling and Psychological Services will be inaccessible to pedestrians Thursday, Aug. 1, through Friday, Aug. 16, for construction related to the new science building.Barricades will be constructed; expect construction personnel and equipment in the area.
Partial lane closure along Alumni Way
From Thursday, July 25, through Monday, July 29, there will be a partial lane and sidewalk closure along Alumni Way to install a new painted crosswalk and access ramp.
Expect traffic delays; however, flaggers will assist with vehicle flow. Construction equipment and personnel will be in the area, so remember to exercise caution when approaching this part of campus.
EHS promotes office safety
There is a misconception that hazards or other safety concerns are found only in shops, labs, medical facilities or outside. However, office spaces, where a majority of UNC Charlotte employees work, are not absent from hazards; they can simply be different from those associated with other work environments.

Laura Williams often spends her commute thinking not only about the small inconveniences of life but how to adjust and improve them.
Simply put, Williams likes making things better. As UNC Charlotte’s controller, she is constantly devising small changes to processes to make work easier for members of the University community.
“Whether it is establishing guidance on account codes or becoming more intentional about outreach to business officers, just trying to improve things every day is a part of what drives me,” said Williams.
Parking permits for 2019-20 now on sale
Parking permits for the 2019-20 academic year are available for purchase through mypark.charlotte.edu. The 2019-20 permits will be valid beginning Thursday, Aug.

Summer blood drive will help save lives
Keith Wassum, associate vice chancellor for business services, is an advocate for University-hosted blood drives. On Thursday, June 20, the American Red Cross will be in the food court area of Barnhardt Student Activity Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and he is urging faculty and staff to join him in donating.
