Repaving to close road, parking lot temporarily

On Thursday, Aug. 3, the drive at Wallis Hall will be closed between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to pave over the gravel area.

Also, Parking Lot 15 at the Burson Building will be closed for repaving on Friday, Aug. 4.

Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction zones, and watch for signage and construction vehicles and personnel.

New Leadership Experience cohort announced

Learning and Organizational Development has named the 2017 Leadership Experience cohort. The award-winning program encourages participants to deepen their understanding of how to move from managing to leading, while building relationships based on trust and mutual respect.

CRI road closures scheduled

Portions of roads/lanes on the Charlotte Research Institute area of campus will be closed starting at 6 a.m., Saturday, July 15, through 6 p.m., Sunday, July 16.

Workers will repair and apply stripping primer to seal roadways on Robert Snyder Road and a portion of Phillips Road.

Expect traffic directors, equipment and signage in the area; remember to exercise caution when approaching construction zones.

NCDOT to conduct drone testing, host workshop on campus

The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will host a “Drone Workshop for Commercial and Government Operators” from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, July 27, in the Cone University Center. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

ID cards needed to raise parking gates beginning June 27

Members of the University community will need to use their 49er ID cards to access the CRI, Union, Cone (faculty/staff west side only) and North decks beginning Tuesday, June 27. Tapping the card at a contactless reader will raise the gates for entry and exit.

The card will serve as the primary parking credential while the new license plate recognition (LPR) equipment at these locations is calibrated.

Once the system is fully operational, the card will serve as a backup credential if LPR ever fails to read a license plate.

Join the Clean Commute Challenge

As temperatures rise, the campus and surrounding communities are more vulnerable to the effects of unhealthy air quality. The annual Clean Commute Challenge, an initiative spearheaded by N.C. Air Awareness, aims to combat this issue. 

The program, administered by the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, provides individuals and organizations with tools to help reduce pollution and exposure to harmful levels of ozone and particulate matter.

‘Light Rail Connects Us’ – train tests scheduled to start this week

Later this week, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will begin testing trains along the route to the UNC Charlotte Main Station. There will be trains traveling at very slow speeds on the tracks and possibly stopping at the station on campus. This will occur primarily in evening hours.

NuPark selected to bring smart parking solutions to campus

Construction across campus continues in order to prepare parking lots and decks for license plate recognition (LPR) that will grant parking permissions for permit purchasers.

Recently, UNC Charlotte selected NuPark as the vendor to bring smart parking to campus operations. The University will implement NuPark’s open parking management platform, which includes LPR, virtual permits, gate system integration and multiple mobile payment options.
