Get ready for a festival of fun

Fall break is approaching, and that coincides with an annual autumn tradition — the Staff Council Fall Festival.

This year’s festival is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Employee anglers get ready; the second Chancellor’s Fishing Derby will be Saturday, Oct. 7, at Hechenbleikner Lake, near the main entrance to campus.

We lost a member of our University community this weekend. Jeannine Skinner, assistant professor of gerontology/psychology in the Department of Psychological Science, passed away at age 35.

Code of Student Academic Integrity policy revised

University Policy 407, Code of Student Academic Integrity, was revised effective Aug. 15, to improve the proper and efficient functioning of the academic integrity process. These changes include adding timelines and deadlines for adjudicating cases, increasing the number of members of the Academic Integrity Board, removing the requirement that AIB members have “professorial rank” and adding suggested educational penalties.

Code of Student Responsibility policy revised

University Policy 406, Code of Student Responsibility, was revised effective Aug. 15, to ensure compliance with federal, state and local law; federal and state guidance; and UNC system policy. In addition, the revisions remove redundancies and realign provisions to ensure a more logical flow that is easier for students to understand and for staff to administer.

UNC Staff Assembly meets on campus

UNC Charlotte recently hosted the quarterly meeting of the UNC Staff Assembly, which is composed of elected delegates from each of the 17 campuses in the system. The UNC Staff Assembly “serves in a parallel function with the University Faculty Assembly and the Association of Student Governments to address constructively the concerns and interests of the respective campuses and the whole University.”

Walker named University’s chief audit officer

Jennifer Walker recently joined UNC Charlotte’s Internal Audit Department as chief audit officer (CAO), following a national search.

As the University’s CAO, Walker will lead the professionals in the Internal Audit Department as they carry out the department’s mission to enhance and protect UNC Charlotte’s value and reputation by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice and insight.

‘Light Rail Connects Us’ – train tests scheduled to start this week

Later this week, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will begin testing trains along the route to the UNC Charlotte Main Station. There will be trains traveling at very slow speeds on the tracks and possibly stopping at the station on campus. This will occur primarily in evening hours.

University’s Smoking and Use of Tobacco Products Policy revised

Effective June 1,  University Policy 707, Smoking and Use of Tobacco Products, has been revised by adding a new defined term, “tobacco product,” which means a cigarette, a cigar, chewing tobacco, vapor product or any other product that contains tobacco and is intended for inhalation, oral use or nasal use. The term does not include nicotine patches, nicotine gum, nicotine lozenges or other tobacco cessation products.

Faculty/Staff Social scheduled

Faculty and staff members are invited to join colleagues for socializing and networking at a Faculty and Staff Social, which will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Thursday, April 27, at the Rose Football Center.

Sponsored by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, the social will feature light hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and soft drinks. RSVPs requested.
