Northbound lane of Mary Alexander to close temporarily

Between 3 and 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, the northbound lane of Mary Alexander Road, along with the sidewalk in front of Sycamore Hall, will close temporarily to allow the placement of concrete as part of the renovation project for Sycamore Hall.

Expect a concrete truck and pump truck to block the lane; flaggers will direct two-way traffic around the closure.

Pedestrians should use the sidewalks on the west side of the roadway. Remember to exercise caution when approaching constructions zones.

Outbound lane of Institute Circle to close temporarily

The outbound lane of Institute Circle will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 8-9, due to construction related to the new entrance sign.

Detour signs and barricades will be erected; outbound traffic will be detoured to J.W. Clay Boulevard.

Expect heavy equipment and construction personnel in the area. Exercise caution when approaching construction areas.

Part of Mary Alexander Road to close temporarily

Between Monday and Wednesday, Dec. 17-19, a portion of Mary Alexander Road will be closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrian traffic will remain on the east side of the roadway.

This closure is a safety measure related to the removal of the steam stack in preparation for construction to begin on the new science building.

Barricades will be erected at the intersections of Mary Alexander Road and Cameron Boulevard and Mary Alexander Road and Craver Road.

Cone loading dock area to close temporarily

The Cone loading dock will be closed to vehicles and pedestrian traffic from 7 a.m., Monday, Dec. 17, through 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, to add new parking stripes and to re-stripe faded ones.

All in-house vehicles must be removed from the dock to allow for painting and drying time. All painted surfaces on asphalt or concrete should be avoided through Dec. 20.

Pedestrians should refrain for entering the loading dock on Monday to avoid paint overspray and on Tuesday and Wednesday to avoid newly painted surfaces.

Institute Circle to close temporarily

Institute Circle will close for all traffic between Monday, Dec. 17, and Friday, Jan. 4, for construction on the entrance to the Charlotte Research Institute. Traffic will be directed to the J.W. Clay Boulevard entrance during this work.

Detour signage and barricades will be erected; expect heavy construction equipment and personnel in the area. As always, approach construction zones with caution.

Temporary closure of Denny Building entrance/exit

The southwest stairwell entrance/exit facing the Garinger Building from the Denny Building will be closed Monday, Dec. 3, through Sunday, Jan. 6, for construction to remove the existing concrete walkway and install new brick pavers as part of the Academic Complex Renovation project.

Signage will be erected to direct pedestrians to the closest entrance/exit.

During this time, expect construction equipment and personnel under the breezeway. Exercise caution when approaching construction areas.

 

Temporary sidewalk closure near Reese, King buildings

Portions of the sidewalk between Reese and King buildings will be closed starting Monday, Nov. 12, to allow for repairs to underground pipes.

Expect construction fences, noise and heavy equipment, along with vehicles entering/exiting the area. This project is expected to be completed by Friday, Dec. 14.

Remember to use caution when approaching construction areas.

Second phase of science building construction to begin

On Thursday, Nov. 8, the second phase of construction on the new science building is scheduled to begin.

Fencing will be erected around the entire site, with a portion of Lot 16 to be closed permanently.

Expect heavy construction equipment and personnel as work begins to demolish the old facilities operations building, steam plant and warehouse.

New walking paths will be in place, as the north sidewalk along Craver Road will be closed. The bus stop in front of the project will be closed, too.

Work is expected through December 2020.

Paving work scheduled for Lot 16A

Between Friday, Nov. 2, and Sunday, Nov. 4, workers will complete the final paving and striping of Parking Lot 16A. On Friday, parking spaces closest to the Auxiliary Services Building will be closed; the entire lot will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Pedestrian bridge along Cameron Boulevard closed temporarily

The pedestrian bridge along Cameron Boulevard, between Bissell House and Harris Alumni Center, was damaged during the recent storm. Repairs are underway through Tuesday, Oct. 23.
