External excavation, repairs being completed on Woodward Hall

Repair work to the exterior of Woodward Hall (the section near the Cato College of Education) is underway through Thursday, June 15.

Expect heavy equipment, excavation work, noise and dust and masonry cutting/removal during the project.

Exercise caution when approaching construction zones.

Green Office certifications boost awareness of campus’ environmental footprint

The UNC Charlotte Green Office Program, an initiative piloted by the Sustainability Office in 2015, has reported a notable rise in the number of Green Office certifications. 

The program, now in its third year, encourages and lends support to offices to participate in self-guided assessments that identify ways to improve daily operations to reduce their overall impact at the University. To date, nine offices have successfully assessed and measured their environmental footprint in the areas of, but not limited to, energy, recycling, waste and transportation. 

Earth Month activities will help make the campus greener

A tree planting, the spring Campus Cleanup and an Earth Day Festival are just some of the activities planned by UNC Charlotte’s Sustainability Office to encourage the University community be become more aware of and involved in environmental issues.

University earns third Tree Campus USA designation

UNC Charlotte was honored with 2016 Tree Campus USA recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management.

Tree Campus USA is a national program created in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals. There are 296 campuses across the United States with this recognition.

Temporary lane closures for Cameron Boulevard, Poplar Terrace Drive

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, portions of Cameron Boulevard and Poplar Terrace Drive will be closed temporarily.

Expect alternating use of lanes to keep both directions of traffic passable. Workers will be on site to direct traffic during the closure.

Sytsma named sustainability coordinator

Tyler Sytsma recently joined UNC Charlotte as the University sustainability coordinator. A member of the Facilities Management Department, Sytsma will handle various projects that involve offices/departments across campus.

Temporary closure at Cameron/Craver/Phillips intersection extended

The closing of the intersection at Cameron Boulevard with Craver and Phillips Roads to replace crosswalks has been extended to the afternoon of Monday, May 23, due to this week’s weather.

Drivers and pedestrians should expect concrete trucks and other heavy construction equipment in the area. Signage and barricades will be erected.

Individuals should stay alert and exercise caution when approaching construction areas.
