University earns third Tree Campus USA designation

UNC Charlotte was honored with 2016 Tree Campus USA recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management.

Tree Campus USA is a national program created in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals. There are 296 campuses across the United States with this recognition.

2017 Staff Council Chili and Cornbread Cook-off winners named

Chris Maynard, a staff member in Travel and Complex Payments, was the big winner in the Staff Council’s annual Chili and Cornbread Cook-off, held Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Cone University Center Lucas Room.

Maynard’s chili recipe placed second, her cornbread recipe was judged the best, and her serving station won best décor. John Stephens from ITS took top honors for his chili recipe; while Niambi Ivery, CRES, was voted fan favorite.

Suzanne Jasmine from the Belk College of Business placed second in the cornbread competition.

25 individuals nominated for Employee of the Year

Twenty-five nominations were submitted to Human Resources this year for the annual Employee of the Year Award; individuals were nominated in the categories of devotion to duty, human relations, innovation, community/public service and safety and heroism.

Tickets on sale for 2017 Staff Recognition Luncheon

Tickets are on sale through Friday, March 17, for the 2017 Staff Recognition Luncheon scheduled for noon, Wednesday, March 22, in the Student Union Multipurpose Room.

The Staff Recognition Luncheon is held annually to recognize staff members who are celebrating service anniversary milestones and to present the Staff Employee(s) of the Year Award. 

Parking Lot 15 to close temporarily

Parking Lot 15, located in front of the Burson Building, will be closed starting at 6 a.m., Saturday, March 4, through 6 p.m., Sunday, March 13, to install new mechanical equipment as part of building renovations.

ADA parking will be available at North Library Lane and the Popp Martin Student Union Deck. For ADA access to the first floor, individuals should use the second-floor entrance and take the elevator down. The south side first-floor entrance will remain open.

UNC Charlotte switching ‘clicker’ vendors

Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the University will begin to use Poll Everywhere software for classes that use a student response system, previously known as clickers.

Temporary stair closure in Denny Building scheduled

Beginning at 6 a.m., Saturday, March 4, through 8 p.m., Sunday, March 12, the stairs in Denny Building that face the courtyard will be closed to complete abatement in these stairs and to install new railings.

To access the second floor of Garinger and Winningham buildings, students, faculty and staff should use the Garinger elevator; use the Barnard Building elevator to access the second floor of Barnard and the Macy Building.

Storrs and Rowe to open new exhibitions

Two new exhibitions will open on Monday, March 13, with receptions in Rowe and Storrs Galleries.

CCI Professor Emeritus Bill Ribarsky dies

Bill Ribarsky, a retired faculty member in the College of Computing and Informatics, died Thursday, Feb. 23, according to information provided the University.

Chartwells seeks focus group participants

Focus group participants are sought to discuss their campus dining experiences and their opinions on the current dining options on campus.

All participants will receive a free lunch at the SoVi Dining Hall and will be eligible to win a Beats wireless headphones.
