Meet a Niner: Deborah Beete

Meet Deborah Beete, MPH, M.Div., who is a certified health education specialist and lecturer in the Department of Public Health Sciences. She also is program director for the Master of Public Health program and a representative of the Honors College Faculty Council. Meet Karen Weatherington

Volleyball’s Karen Weatherington is a passionate coach with a deep respect for the game, her players and coaches. The head coach of the Charlotte 49ers volleyball team for eight seasons, she was named Conference USA Coach of the Year in 2021. Camps on Campus priority registration open to employees

UNC Charlotte Camps on Campus offers academic enrichment camps for children and young people in rising grades one through 12.

University staff and faculty can participate in priority registration by calling 704-687-8900. A valid UNC Charlotte ID is required.

Week-long programs, which start June 12 and run through Aug. 11, include:

Kaber needs shared leave

Donna Kaber, Parking and Transportation Services Office, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Feb. 15.

To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or complete the online Voluntary Shared Leave Donation Form from the HR Benefits Forms website.

UNC Charlotte Children’s Choir to Resume

The UNC Charlotte Children’s Choir is scheduled to resume Monday, Feb. 6. This free, 13-week program provides students in grades three through five the chance to participate in a choral ensemble. University faculty and music education students will provide instruction.
Children are selected by their music teachers to participate in the choir.
Rehearsals will be Mondays from 4:45 to 6 p.m. in the Robinson Hall for Performing Arts on the UNC Charlotte campus. The UNC Charlotte Children’s Choir will give a performance on Monday, May 8.

Meet a Niner: Kimberly Barrett

Kimberly Barrett is a learning and development specialist for learning and organizational development in human resources. She currently manages the University’s New Employee Orientation and Campus Connection Events for new staff and serves as program manager for the PAC and ASPIRE professional development programs.

Meet Star Watson

Star Watson, a building environmental technician supervisor for housing and residence life, has been at UNC Charlotte for 11 years. In her position, she supervises the southeast zone housekeepers in Sanford Hall, Levine Hall and the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Watson, who is working on her degree in early elementary education at Charlotte, recently was awarded the Janet B. Royster Scholarship. Learn more about her in this Q&A.

Reminders about using leave

At the beginning each new calendar year, leave-earning employees should be aware of how they can use their leave. As a reminder, the special COVID-19 leave provision that allowed for the interchangeability of leave ended Dec. 31, 2021.
