The latest issue of the North Carolina Medical Journal (NCMJ) focuses on how technology and big data can impact health care in North Carolina. The issue was co-edited by Michael Thompson, associate chair of the UNC Charlotte Department of Public Health Sciences, and Michael Dulin, director of the Academy for Population Health Innovation.

The issue was co-edited by Michael Thompson, associate chair of the UNC Charlotte Department of Public Health Sciences, and Michael Dulin, director of the Academy for Population Health Innovation.

There is a misconception that hazards or other safety concerns are found only in shops, labs, medical facilities or outside. However, office spaces, where a majority of UNC Charlotte employees work, are not absent from hazards; they can simply be different from those associated with other work environments.

Jesh Humphrey, vice chancellor of Institutional Integrity and general counsel, will facilitate a FERPA refresher workshop from 10 to 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 281.

In an increasingly technological society, new questions arise about what information constitutes students’ education records, what texts or emails might qualify as written consent and how to protect students’ privacy in various databases and online. Humphrey will hit the FERPA highlights, cover new issues and spend time fielding questions from attendees.

A chapter by Associate Dean of Performing Arts Services Dean Adams appears in “The Oxford Handbook of Musical Theatre Screen Adaptations,” published this month by Oxford University Press.

The book, edited by Dominic McHugh, traces how the genre of the stage-to-screen musical has evolved since the early decades of sound film. Adams’s chapter, “The Producers and Hairspray: The Hazards and Rewards of Recursive Adaptation,” examines two more recent musical adaptations.

Parking permits for the 2019-20 academic year are available for purchase through mypark.charlotte.edu. The 2019-20 permits will be valid beginning Thursday, Aug.
