Alaina Names-Mattefs is director of graduate programs for the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences and the College of Science. Learn about her role, advice when considering graduate school and how her two children inspire her. 

How long have you been at UNC Charlotte?

I began at UNC Charlotte teaching Introduction to Sociology in the fall of 2019, after moving from Texas. Since then, I have continued to teach and serve full time as director of graduate programs.

Rich Steele to depart Charlotte

Rich Steele, associate vice chancellor for facilities management, has announced his departure from UNC Charlotte effective Jan. 31. Steele has accepted the role of chief executive officer of the National Association of College Auxiliary Services. 
Steele joined UNC Charlotte in 2019 as associate vice chancellor for business services and transitioned into facilities management in 2021. During his tenure, Steele led more than 400 employees in the Department of Facilities Management in planning, building, operating and maintaining the University’s buildings and land.
