University appoints new associate vice chancellor for business services
Rich Steele has been appointed UNC Charlotte’s new associate vice chancellor for business services. He will begin work May 20 and officially assume his role July 1. He succeeds Keith Wassum, who is retiring after 40 years of service to the University.
A Message from the Chancellor
Dear Colleagues:
Last night, all of you received the message that we would be returning to “regular operations” today. The use of the word “regular” was intentional, and a departure from our usual phrasing of returning to “normal operations” following a weather-related closing.
Hanley-Hayes needs shared leave

Hamlet city manager to join Graduate School
Jonathan Blanton, city manager for Hamlet, North Carolina, will join UNC Charlotte’s Graduate School May 20 as director of finance and business affairs. He will report to Tom Reynolds, associate provost and dean of the Graduate School.
“As we begin developing our strategic plan for 2020-25, we are excited to add Jonathan’s expertise in management process improvement, policy development and financial planning to the team,” Reynolds said.

Psychological Science professor lauded for innovation
James Cook, a professor in the Department of Psychological Science at UNC Charlotte, has received the 2019 Outstanding Educator Award, a top honor given by the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA), Division 27 of the American Psychological Association.
Attend upcoming Faculty/staff Social
Faculty and staff members can join colleagues for socializing and networking at a Faculty and Staff Social, which will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, at Bissell House.
Sponsored by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, the social will feature light hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and soft drinks. RSVPs requested.

Expect traffic delays along Alumni Way
On Tuesday, April 23, there will be slight traffic delays along Alumni Way due to construction of speed bumps in front of the South Village Parking Deck.
Traffic will be rerouted to one lane; flaggers will be present to direct traffic.
Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction areas.
