Early morning lane closure scheduled along Mary Alexander Road
Between 5:30 and 7 a.m., Wednesday, March 20, the northbound lane of Mary Alexander Road will be closed temporarily to allow construction work related to the Sycamore Hall Renovation project.
A concrete truck will block the northbound lane and sidewalk in front of Sycamore Hall. Flaggers will direct traffic.
Remember to stay alert and exercise caution when approaching construction areas.
Student nominees sought for Leadership Fellows
Nominate a student for Leadership Fellows, a program that promotes, trains and develops specific skills desired by students interested in leadership roles. Through practical applications, experiential learning and related topics specific to leadership development, students will make positive contributions to University organizations and the surrounding community.
Leadership Fellows at UNC Charlotte is intended for sophomores, juniors or seniors.
DMV holding REAL ID Day in Charlotte
The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will hold a REAL ID Express Day on Saturday, March 16, at the office located at 9711 David Taylor Dr. Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., state residents can obtain N.C. REAL IDs without an appointment.
A North Carolina REAL ID will make it more convenient to board a commercial airplane or visit a federal facility, according to the N.C. DMV. Beginning in 2020, federal agencies will enforce tougher security standards at airport check-ins, federal buildings, military installations and nuclear sites.
Learn the basics of home gardening
UNC Charlotte employees can register to learn the fundamentals of beginning an in-home garden at the free class “Basic Home Gardening” scheduled for 4 p.m., Monday, March 18, at the McMillan Greenhouse.
The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is sponsoring this one-hour workshop. Participants should bring notetaking equipment and wear closed-toe shoes.

Rayburn needs shared leave
Isabel Rayburn, Housing and Residence Life, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through March 21.

Sidewalk, bike lane closures scheduled along Mary Alexander Road
From Monday, March 11, through Friday, April 5, the sidewalk and bike lane on the east side of Mary Alexander Road between Hickory and Sycamore Halls will be closed for construction related to the Sycamore Hall Renovation Project.
A construction fence and barricade will block the sidewalk and bike lane; signage will direct pedestrians to use the crosswalks and bike lane on the west side of Mary Alexander Road.
The bus stop at Hickory Hall will be relocated to the north near the stairs between Cedar and Hickory Halls.
Plan now to make the most of SHRA performance appraisals
When the Human Resources Department launched a new SHRA performance management program, NinerTalent STAKES, two years ago, the goal was to help supervisors and employees set meaningful performance goals for the success of the individual, unit and University. It also was designed to promote more ongoing, two-way communication regarding these goals.
LEAD Program now has new format
The Leadership Enhancement and Development (LEAD) program is the required training that newly hired or promoted supervisors need to complete within their first 12 months on the job.
Starting this year, LEAD has changed. The content is divided into mini-modules available online and face-to-face. With this flexible format, participants can enroll in sessions that work best for their schedules and work at their own pace to fulfill the requirements within one year of appointment.
Partial lane closure scheduled near Poplar Lane
A partial lane closure along Cameron Boulevard near Poplar Lane is scheduled from Monday, March 4, through Sunday, March 10, for repair work to curbs, gutters and sidewalk ramps as well as the installation of traffic signals.
While the road will remain open in both directions, flaggers will assist traffic. Expect travel delays due to construction equipment and personnel in the roadway.
Remember to use caution when approaching construction areas.
