Construction projects can affect the campus by changing pedestrian, bike and vehicle routes and creating additional activity at or around the University. Members of the campus community should exercise caution when approaching construction areas.

The Human Resources Department will host “What Women Need to Know about Social Security” from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, March 19, in the Colvard Building, Room 5092.

Representatives from the Social Security Administration will be on campus to explain the financial benefits, tools and information available to women to help them plan for the future.

As part of the University’s Staff Recognition events, third-shift employees can gather at the Popp Martin Student Union Rotunda starting at 11:30 p.m., Monday, March 26, for “Midnight Appreciation.” Attendees will receive a free, boxed meal.

A new reception-style event, scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, in the Popp Martin Student Union, will recognize the 2018 Employee of the Year recipients and nominees and those who have achieved a five-year milestone level of service.

This “high dining dessert shoppe” reception will be free to all employees to enable more staff members to take advantage of the opportunity, said Katherine Tomey, employee award and recognition coordinator in the Human Resources Department.

Samantha Roberts, Department of Languages and Culture Studies, needs shared leave donations.

To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. Robert D. Snyder Road will be closed at J.W. Clay Boulevard between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday, March 10, for paving of ADA-accessible crosswalks. The Niner Transit Silver Line bus stop at CRI Deck 1 also will be closed for this work.

Traffic entering campus from North Tryon Street should use Institute Circle. Expect flaggers and construction equipment and personnel in the area. Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction zones.

Sidewalks between Atkins Library and the Kennedy Building will be closed intermittently through March 28 for underground utility installation associated with the Belk Plaza renovation project.

Pedestrians and service vehicles will be rerouted to the north and east side of Kennedy while work is performed. Temporary metal plates will be installed across the sidewalks, and only one location will be closed at any given time to maintain access to the east entrance of Atkins.
