Campus dining halls recognized for sustainability efforts
SoVi Dining Hall and Crown Commons were designated recently as “3 Star Certified Green Restaurants” by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA), a national nonprofit organization helping restaurants to become more environmentally sustainable.
Currently, the Charlotte area has five GRA-designated facilities, and two of those are UNC Charlotte’s SoVi Dining Hall and Crown Commons. The University is one of five higher education institutions in North Carolina with a certified green restaurant.
Webinar to focus on building mental fitness
The Human Resources Department and the Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness are sponsoring the webinar “Building Mental Fitness for Optimal Brain Power” at noon, Thursday, April 18.

Take back the night
Brittany Piper is the keynote speaker for UNC Charlotte’s annual “Take Back the Night” event, which will start at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 11, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.
Learn the basics of home gardening
UNC Charlotte employees can register to learn the fundamentals of beginning an in-home garden at the free class “Basic Home Gardening” scheduled for 4 p.m., Monday, March 18, at the McMillan Greenhouse.
The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is sponsoring this one-hour workshop. Participants should bring notetaking equipment and wear closed-toe shoes.
49ers encouraged ‘to swab to save lives’
During February, UNC Charlotte students will have the opportunity to save lives. Junior Haley Wheeler is organizing stem cell/bone marrow registry drives on Feb. 20 and 28.
UNC Charlotte’s Global Medical Brigades chapter providing health care to the needy
UNC Charlotte’s chapter of Global Medical Brigades is bringing medical and business help to some of the world’s neediest communities.
In May 2019, members of the chapter will travel to Panama to deliver medical supplies, assist in medical care and offer financial support to businesses there.
Flu shot clinic scheduled
The Human Resources Department is coordinating a flu shot clinic. Immunizations will be administered from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room.
Employees and family members, age 4 and older, who are covered by the State Health Plan, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) or other eligible plans can participate in these free clinics.
Faculty/staff invited to open house for High Team Challenge course
The Chancellor’s Health and Wellness Committee and Venture Outdoor Leadership are partnering to provide faculty and staff members the chance to experience the High Team Challenge course (HTC) for free between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27.
Open enrollment kickoff event scheduled
This year, in lieu of the annual Benefits Fair, the Benefits Office and the Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness (ACCEHW) will host an Open Enrollment Kickoff Event from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.
Light refreshments will be provided. Representatives from the ACCEHW, Benefits Office, NC Flex Benefits, ComPsych Guidance Resources, Kinesiology Department, FastMed and others will attend.
