A garden for autistic children, lab coats for new nursing graduates and scholarships for legacy students are among the latest round of spring crowdfunding projects that the UNC Charlotte community can support. Crowdfund UNC Charlotte is an online platform that helps University faculty, staff and students fund unique projects.

Last year was the first time in two decades that the UNC Charlotte American Society of Civil Engineers’ concrete canoe team advanced to the national competition. But upon arriving for the contest at San Diego State University, the team realized it was missing one thing: its canoe.

Thankfully, the canoe, which had been shipped early via UPS, showed up later in a nearby city after a frantic search. But the team learned a valuable lesson.

From scholarships and campus renovations to cultural events and student support services, UNC Charlotte’s donors continue to enhance the 49er student experience with their generous gifts. Green with Gratitude is a 49er effort established to educate students on the importance and impact of philanthropy.

More than 30 legislators from the Charlotte region attended a recent dinner hosted by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois and the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Several members of UNC Charlotte’s Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, will present creative pieces and participate in a special discussion during the 2019 Sigma Tau Delta International Convention, scheduled for March 27-30 in St. Louis, Missouri.

The University chapter is crowdfunding to raise $3,000 to pay for the registration, travel and accommodations for eight members to attend the convention. This year’s theme is “Work In Progress.”

This February, UNC Charlotte is asking alums to share their love stories of how they met their significant others as well as what they love about the University. Stories shared on social media, using #iLOVEUNCC qualify to win exclusive 49er swag, and alums are encouraged to make a gift to support programs, scholarships or departments at LOVE.UNCC.EDU.

As a triple major in French, German and international studies, UNC Charlotte senior Maria Garcia dreams of working as an interpreter helping people travel the world.

Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) and Sen. Dan Bishop (R-Mecklenburg) recently hosted an education roundtable at UNC Charlotte with local members of the education community and industry partners.

The UNC Charlotte Young Alumni Chapter is partnering with City Barbecue to present “Dollars for Scholars” on Thursday, Feb. 28.

Visit City Barbecue on J.M. Keynes Drive between 10:30 a.m. and 10 p.m., present the Dollars for Scholars flier and 25 percent of the bill will benefit the 49er Legacy Scholarship fund. From 6 to 10 p.m., there will be raffles and special guest appearances.
