The Turner School of Accountancy has surpassed its fundraising goal, raising more than $5.2 million in gifts and commitments from more than 285 donors.

The fall 2018 crowdfunding lineup includes eight faculty- and/or student-driven projects that promise to enhance and transform the collegiate experience at UNC Charlotte. Crowdfund UNC Charlotte is an online platform that assists members of Niner Nation fund unique initiatives.

Chancellor Philip L. Dubois was the featured speaker at the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Charlotte’s luncheon held at the Mint Museum in Uptown Charlotte.  He spoke to a packed room of business professionals and community leaders about the importance of education to individuals and the region, the University’s record-breaking enrollment and the growth of UNC Charlotte’s Latino community.

“How many of you have seen the movie ‘The Martian?’’’ asked futurist and theoretical physicist Michio Kaku, scanning the room as scores of hands shot up. “That movie cost $100 million to make. The Indian government sent a probe to Mars for $75 million. A Hollywood movie about going to Mars now costs more than going to Mars.”

UNC Charlotte faculty, staff and students are invited to listen and share during campus discussions about the legacy of segregation in Charlotte on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Faculty and staff members can join colleagues for socializing and networking at a Faculty and Staff Social, which will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts.

Renowned futurist, theoretical physicist and author Michio Kaku will deliver the 2018 Chancellor’s Speaker Series presentation, part of the annual UNC Charlotte Civic Series presented by Bank of America.

Helping those in need took on increased significance during the 2018 Giving Green Campaign kickoff luncheon. Campaign co-chair Shannon Homesley, executive assistant to the provost, talked about the strength and pride of the UNC Charlotte community.

Make big things happen for 49ers, by participating in this year’s #NinerNationGives. The fourth annual 49-hour digital fundraising event kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 26, and goes through 9 a.m., Friday, Sept. 28.

Members of Niner Nation know that UNC Charlotte was founded on Sept. 23, 1946, as the Charlotte Center, an evening college to educate the scores of veterans returning to the area after World War II. In honor of UNC Charlotte’s 72nd birthday, the Office of Alumni Affairs is encouraging students to take the Traditions Walk, a short tour of a few of the University’s notable sites.
