House speaker visits campus
North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) visited UNC Charlotte on Friday, Aug. 2, where he highlighted the $45 million in the legislative-passed budget for the renovations of the Burson and Cameron buildings.
University implements new 49er Mart projects
Financial Services is always looking for ways to improve and simplify processes. During the last two years, a collaborative team, which included representatives from Financial Services, Information Technology Services and Imaging and Workflow among others, has worked to implement several 49er Mart initiatives designed to enhance the user experience and decrease processing time by eliminating paper procedures and adding electronic workflows.
UNC System, U.S. Army partner to spur student interest in STEM fields
Several thousand U.S. Army engineers and scientists are nearing retirement age. The Army will develop and attract the talent it needs to fill those vacancies through a new partnership with the University of North Carolina System.
University appoints new associate vice chancellor for business services
Rich Steele has been appointed UNC Charlotte’s new associate vice chancellor for business services. He will begin work May 20 and officially assume his role July 1. He succeeds Keith Wassum, who is retiring after 40 years of service to the University.
Town hall to explore future of campus IT
A town hall meeting is scheduled for 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, in the Popp Martin Student Union Multipurpose Room, to learn about the recommended future “One IT” organization could look like.
Oregon’s Brook Muller named dean of the College of Arts + Architecture
Brook Muller, director of the University of Oregon Portland Architecture Program, will become dean of the UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture, effective this September.
University to conduct NinerAlerts test Friday, March 8
The Office of Emergency Management and the Police and Public Safety Department will conduct a full test of the NinerAlert system from approximately 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, March 8. All methods of alert notification will be used. This includes text messaging, email, Alertus technology (on-campus screen takeover), LiveSafe and social media.
The test message will read:
NinerAlert: This is a test of the UNC Charlotte Emergency Alert System. This is only a test.
CATS to increase security for NBA All-Star Game, expect delays
Charlotte is hosting NBA All-Star 2019 events Friday through Sunday, Feb.15-17. An estimated 150,000 visitors are expected in the city during this time. As a result, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will make changes that may affect members of the University community.
Prohibited items on light rail: On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing through the end of service each day, the following items will not be allowed on the train or at platforms:
Incident briefly locks down UNC Charlotte Center City
At approximately 9:25 a.m., Jan. 31, there was a report of gunshots being fired in the 300 block of E. 9th Street. Two shots hit UNC Charlotte Center City, and the building was placed on lockdown immediately.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety both responded to the scene. According to CMPD, upon arrival, officers spoke with several witnesses who stated they heard gunfire from the intersection of N. Brevard and E. 9th Street
