Charlotte’s Dazia Lawrence Named to USA Basketball’s 3×3 World Cup Team
Charlotte 49ers redshirt junior guard Dazia Lawrence has been named to the USA Women’s Basketball team that will compete at the 2023 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup, Sept. 27 through Oct. 1, in Lublin, Poland.
“We are thrilled that Dazia has been selected to represent USA Basketball,” said 49ers head coach Cara Consuegra. “Last year Dazia worked hard to become one of the best players in our conference, and we firmly believe that she is one of the best players in the country. She now has the opportunity to showcase her abilities against the best athletes in the world.”
The 2023 USA 3×3 U23 Women’s World Cup Team includes Zia Cooke, Aquira DeCosta, Dyaisha Fair and Lawrence. Craig Moore will serve as head coach.
Different than five-on-fine, 3×3 basketball is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous, as teams “clear” the ball behind the two-point line following a made basket, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via one-point field goals or two-pointers from behind the arc is victorious; if time expires, then the team leading wins.
