Since Friday’s announcement regarding the availability of Dropbox for Education, hundreds of faculty and staff members have taken advantage of this “free, secure, unlimited file storage with access anywhere, anytime.”

Donna Lanclos, associate professor for anthropological research, is among them. “I already use Dropbox and have for years,” said Lanclos. “It’s one of the most convenient ways to have access to my documents.”

Michael Carlin, vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer for the University, stated, “Our customers expect easier, secure access to their work in this growing mobile environment.”

Dropbox for Education eventually will replace the H: Drive for individual work files; a date has not been determined.

ITS officials said employees will receive several months advance notice.

“During the upcoming academic year, we will transition campus from the quickly aging H: Drive infrastructure to Drobox’s robust, mobile-friendly platform,” said Carlin. “We’re excited to bring Dropbox access to our campus community.”

Several Dropbox training classes and drop-ins are available to assist faculty and staff in learning how to use this file storage offering. Individuals also can contact the IT Service Desk at 704-687-5500 or email help@uncc.edu.
