Get Duo code and manage sponsored accounts links on NinerNET site
The NinerNET landing page was upgraded at 10 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17. A few enhancements have been added:
Duo signups top 50 percent
Duo signups recently hit 50 percent–a key milestone as the Jan. 31 registration deadline approaches. Duo users can enjoy only having to change their NinerNET password every 365 days* (instead of every 90 or 180 days) by signing up for Duo 2-Factor Authentication.

Starting today, most employees* and sponsored guests who use Duo now only need to change their NinerNET password every 365 days–no more changes every 90 or 180 days. Duo adds an extra layer of security; it’s no longer necessary to change passwords as often.

Reminder: Duo authentication required starting Jan. 31, 2019
All faculty, staff, student employees and sponsored guests must enroll in Duo two-factor authentication by Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, to access single sign-on (SSO) services (e.g., Gmail, Banner, Canvas, Drupal). Duo two-factor authentication provides an extra layer of protection to keep accounts and information safer and more secure.

Register for new Gmail interface workshops
Individuals who have not used Gmail’s new design can register for “New Gmail Interface introductory Workshops” to become familiar with changes. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 18, the new design will automatically display when employees log in to Gmail. Users will be able to toggle back to the “classic” version until Oct. 16, when the new design becomes permanent.
Faculty NinerNET grace period extended
Faculty NinerNET credentials are now active for 150 days, an increase from 120 days, after the contract end date. This will benefit part-time faculty members who teach one semester but not the next. Direct questions to the IT Service Desk at 704-687-5500.
Preliminary feedback requested on IT assessment
Feedback is integral to large-scale decisions, and the chancellor recently requested it via a message to faculty and staff. Consultant BerryDunn’s preliminary findings from the university-wide IT Organizational Review are available. The report is preliminary since the Cabinet asked BerryDunn to provide more information on how their recommendations will affect distributed IT staff.
