Charlotte 49ers Basketball Madness part of Homecoming festivities
The annual Basketball Madness event, which is presented by UNC Charlotte housing and residence life, will be at 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, in Halton Arena. The night consists of men’s and women’s basketball team introductions and members of men’s basketball (Braxton Ogbueze and Ridell Camidge) and women’s basketball (Lefty Webster and Ciara Gregory) participating in a three-point shootout. The Gold Dusters, Charlotte 49ers Cheerleaders and Norm the Niner will be on hand.
Doors open at 8:45 p.m. for the general public. Current on-campus housing students will be allowed in at 8:30 p.m. if they have on their housing and residence life T-shirt.
The Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball program enters their first season under the helm of former NBA All-Star Mark Price. Last March, Price became the 10th head coach in Charlotte 49ers history after spending the last seven years as an assistant coach in the NBA. Price was an assistant coach with the Charlotte Hornets for the last two years.
The 49ers welcome back eight letter winners led by Ogbueze, who started all 32 of Charlotte’s games last season while averaging 9.6 points per game. The 49ers also have eight newcomers, including 7-foot center Benas Griciunas, who is eligible to play this season after sitting out last year after transferring from Auburn University.
Charlotte plays Methodist in an exhibition game at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, in Halton Arena. The 49ers open the 2015-16 season at home against Elon at 8:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13; the contest will be broadcast by the American Sports Network.
The Charlotte women’s basketball program is entering its fifth season under head coach Cara Consuegra. The team gets its season under way Nov. 6 in exhibition play against Saint Leo at 7 p.m. in Halton Arena. The 49ers tipoff the 2015-16 season in Halton Arena against Ball State at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13

Women’s basketball season tickets start at $30 for individual season tickets or the affordable family option in the 49ers Gold Card, which provides four season tickets to four sports (women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball) for $75.
