Accessibility Excellence Award recipients named
The Office of Disability Services bestows its Accessibility Excellence Award to faculty and staff members who exhibit a strong commitment to accessibility- and disability-related issues.
Lot 29 to close temporarily
Parking Lot 29 will be closed from Sunday, June 2, through Friday, June 7, for repairs and improvements to the surface.
Expect barricades, asphalt trucks and construction personnel in the area.
Velasco needs shared leave
Maria Velasco, Building Environmental Services, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through June 10.
To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. Construction of conference center/hotel underway
Construction has begun on the new UNC Charlotte Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, located between the PORTAL Building and J.W.
EAP counselor available May 24
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselor from ComPsych will be available to meet with employees between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Friday, May 24, in King Building, Room 201A; no appointment is necessary.

Annual Ice Cream Social scheduled
The Division of Business Affairs will sponsor its annual campus-wide ice cream social from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 31, in the Cone University Center, After Hours Lounge.
During this free event for faculty and staff members, vanilla and chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup, strawberry topping, whipped cream, chopped nuts and cherries will be served while quantities last. Ice water also will be available.

Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs issues message on GPSG independence from SGA
Dear Niner Nation,
I want to share news of the vote earlier this spring to separate the Graduate & Professional Student Government (GPSG) from the Student Government Association (SGA).
During the spring 2019 SGA elections, Referendum 3 on the ballot asked “Do you accept the GPSG Independence Act, which would separate the Graduate & Professional Student Government from the Student Government Association?” 91 percent of student voters responded “Yes.”
Math professor Alexander Gordon has died
Alexander Gordon, 72, an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, died May 13 at Rush Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Gordon earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from Moscow Institute of Electronic Machine Building in 1988. He joined the University as an assistant professor in 2006 and was promoted to associate professor in 2012. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, he worked in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at University of Rochester from 2002 to 2006, first as an analyst/programmer lead and later as an assistant professor.
May is Internal Audit Awareness Month
Gov. Roy Cooper proclaimed May 2019 as “Internal Audit Awareness Month” to recognize the contributions of internal auditors to the success of organizations and the global economy at large. The proclamation recognizes internal audit for:
