Director of School of Architecture stepping down

Chris Jarrett, who has served as the director of the School of Architecture (SoA) for 10 years, will step down from that position on June 30 and join the architecture faculty full-time.

Campus road repairs scheduled

Between Monday and Thursday, May 13-16, various lanes on campus will be closed to repair cracks, potholes and undulations on campus roadways. Expect traffic delays during this work.

Flagmen, barriers and signage will be deployed to alert drivers to partial lane closures. Excavating equipment, asphalt rollers, dump trucks and other construction-related vehicles and personnel will be deployed as part of the project.

Fiscal Year 2020 Internal Audit Plan released

The UNC Charlotte Internal Audit Department performs operational, compliance, financial and IT audits according to the annual Internal Audit Plan. Audit engagements are conducted in conformance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. The plan evaluates risk exposures related to governance, operations and information systems regarding the:

Parking Lot 5 to close temporarily

Between Sunday, May 12, and Friday, May 17, Parking Lot 5 will be closed for repairs and to improve the lot surface.

Temporary closure scheduled along Mary Alexander Road

Mary Alexander Road will be closed between Craver Road and Cab Lane Monday, May 13, through Friday, Aug. 2, for construction related to the new science building.

Barricades will block vehicle access; sidewalks will be open except for intermittent closures related to construction.

There will be no bus pick up along the closed portion. Paratransit will pick up at Sycamore Hall May 13-31 with service resuming at Hickory Hall June 1.

Staff Council seeking nominations for officers, representatives

The UNC Charlotte Staff Council is seeking nominations for vice chair, treasurer and all odd-numbered area representatives for a two-year terms. Tuesday, May 14, is the deadline to submit nominations.

Staff members can self-nominate for their area or nominate a staff member to represent other areas.

Once nominated, candidates will be contacted about their wiliness to serve. Elections will be Monday, May 27, through Wednesday, June 5.

University appoints new associate vice chancellor for business services

Rich Steele has been appointed UNC Charlotte’s new associate vice chancellor for business services. He will begin work May 20 and officially assume his role July 1. He succeeds Keith Wassum, who is retiring after 40 years of service to the University.

Last night, all of you received the message that we would be returning to “regular operations” today. The use of the word “regular” was intentional, and a departure from our usual phrasing of returning to “normal operations” following a weather-related closing.

Hanley-Hayes needs shared leave

Lori Hanley-Hayes, ITS, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through May 14.

To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207.
