Light rail on modified service
CATS announced, Monday, Oct. 15, the light rail will operate on modified service for at least one more week while repairs are made to the overhead catenary system, which was damaged during Hurricane Michael last Thursday when a tree fell on it near 12th street.
Pedestrian bridge along Cameron Boulevard closed temporarily
The pedestrian bridge along Cameron Boulevard, between Bissell House and Harris Alumni Center, was damaged during the recent storm. Repairs are underway through Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Remember to exercise caution when approaching construction areas.
2018 Staff Council Fall Festival was another fun time
The Staff Council’s annual Fall Festival provided opportunities for colleagues to socialize while enjoying a free lunch, contests and other activities.
More than 600 staff members attended this year’s festival, held during Fall Break on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life won the inaugural decorating contest by displaying “Niner Pride.”
Lane closures scheduled along Alumni Way
Between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, lane closures will occur on Alumni Way near South Village Deck as construction takes place to install speed bumps to control traffic for pedestrian safety.
Expect traffic delays as flaggers alternate traffic flow. Exercise caution when approaching construction zones.
Nominees sought for honorary degrees
A highlight of commencement is the recognition of individuals for exceptional and distinctive service to the University or the greater community through the awarding of an honorary degree from UNC Charlotte. The Nominations, Honors and Awards Committee is seeking assistance in nominating persons for this honor.

Work scheduled to improve areas near health center
Construction to update walkways, patios and landscaping near the Student Health Center and the Price Counseling Center will begin Monday, Oct. 22.
Expect construction fencing and equipment operation during this project, which is scheduled through Friday, Dec. 14.

Annual symposium to address legal issues in higher ed
Each fall, the Division of Institutional Integrity holds a legal symposium that focuses on important issues related to higher education.
This year’s event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons. Registration is underway; participants can sign up to attend various sessions throughout the day:
Nominees sought for 2019 teaching excellence awards
The selection committee for the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence and the new UNC Charlotte Award for Teaching Excellence is accepting nominations through Thursday, Nov. 15. These awards are two of the most important and prestigious awards at UNC Charlotte as they honor outstanding professors and provide an example of the University’s commitment to excellence in teaching.
The strongest nominations include specific examples from students; just submit a nomination and the professor will be considered for the award for which they are eligible.
