Fred Klein, senior managing partner at Childress Klein, one of the largest full-service commercial real estate firms in the southeast, is the 2024 recipient of the UNC Charlotte Distinguished Service Award.

UNC Charlotte has received joint national recognition for its work to promote free expression and for serving as role models for other research institutions, according to Heterodox Academy.

UNC Charlotte junior Jalen London has been selected for the competitive Amgen Scholars program and will conduct research this summer at Harvard University. 

For Winston-Salem native London — a Martin Scholar, nursing major and member of the Honors College and nursing honors program — the Amgen program will allow him to continue research he began at Harvard last summer. 

CarlosAlexis Cruz, associate professor of theatre, is the 2024 Engaged Faculty Award  recipient as presented by North Carolina Campus Engagement.

Five members of UNC Charlotte’s faculty or staff have been named to Who’s Who in Black Charlotte. An entity of Real Times Media, Who’s Who in Black Charlotte documents the positive achievements of Black Charlotteans who are making outstanding contributions to the communities and organizations they serve. 

A highlight of commencement is the recognition of individuals for exceptional and distinctive service to the University or the greater community through the awarding of an honorary degree from UNC Charlotte. The Nominations, Honors and Awards Committee is seeking assistance in nominating persons for this honor.

The University’s Board of Trustees has established the following criteria regarding prospective nominees:

M. Lyn Exum and Deborah Beete are the 2023 recipients of the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence and UNC Charlotte Award for Teaching Excellence, respectively.

UNC Charlotte faculty members Brittany Anderson, Janaki Gooty, Tehia Starker Glass and John Tobias ’94 are among the top 100 “power players” helping to build a more diverse, inclusive Queen City.

W. Frank Dowd IV and Roddey Dowd Jr. are the 2023 recipients of the UNC Charlotte Distinguished Service Award.
